Twinwood Events presents the original and best retro music carnival with Twinwood Festival 2018

From Lindy Hoppers to Jivers, every social dancer has got to be at Twinwood Festival 2018. Going since 2002 and dating back to August 1944, Twinwood Festival is the ultimate in retro music, dance, fashion and just pure fun. This year the line up is more spectacular than ever with multiple venues and dance halls all situated in and around the historic Twinwood Glenn Miller Museum.

“This year we have an extravaganza of talent, from old favourites and festival stalwarts like The Swing Commanders to Electric Swing Circus and debuting Natty Congeroo & The Flames of Rhythm,” says Annie Wooding, Creative Director at Twinwood Events. “The facilities are better than ever, so day visitors or campers can hop, step and jive through four days of retro magic.”

Starting on Friday 24 August 2018 and running until Monday 27 August 2018, the programme is jam packed with live music, retro DJs and plenty of opportunity for Lindy Hoppers, Modern Jivers and any other social dancers to step up and shine. Free dance lessons make sure no one will feel out of place when the band starts playing.

“Our 2018 line up is looking truly fantastic so far with a whole host of amazing bands making their Twinwood debuts plus many of your favourites returning,” says Wooding. “We've got The Fabulous Hurricanes, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Swing Ninjas, The Bootleg Beatles, Mudibu & The Jezebel Sextet and even more bands still to announce, so watch this space!”

The Twinwood Festival has come a long way since the first performance in 1944 where the stage was a flatbed trailer and the seating a grassy airfield. There are now 13 venues with numerous dance floors, a good many watering holes and an authentic 1940s mess bar. Apart from non stop live music, there's also fashion, food and free retro, swing and rock 'n roll dance lessons.

Over the years, many Twinwood Festival visitors have chosen to stay at the venue, usually camping. “Our campsites are suitable for motor caravans, caravans, and tents and are situated adjacent to the festival,” says Wooding. “They also have glorious views and excellent facilities, including good lighting, toilets, showers, chemical disposal points, a campsite shop, bars and caterers.”

Twinwood Events is also offering a Glamping option with luxurious boutique Brook Bell Tents. “Upon arrival, check into a ready pitched, fully furnished tent, complete with double height air sprung mattresses, crisp white linen and warm winter tog duvet and pillows. Each tent comes with a mirror, lighting and bedside table and hand crafted Indian rugs,” says Wooding.

For true retro fanatics, there's plenty of fashion and style. Twinwood Festival celebrates all aspects of the past, and vintage style is no exception. The fashions of the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s are a huge part of the festival with a wide array of high quality vintage traders present. For shopaholics, there are over 100 quality traders selling everything from vintage clothing to retro homeware.

For vintage hair help, Twinwood Festival even has several pop up vintage salons and a barbershop on site to offer some fantastic styling over the weekend. Salons for 2018 include The Fabulous Hair Company, Mr Robinson’s Barbershop, Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos, Forever Hair & Beauty, K & R Vintage, and Charlie & Kelly’s Vintage Make-Up.

Not to miss is Mr & Miss Vintage with some awesome prizes for the winners and runners up. “Submit photos beforehand but you must be able to attend the Twinwood Festival in August 2018 if you make it to the final round,” explains Wooding. “This is a unique chance to show off your vintage look, get free entrance to Twinwood 2018 win some amazing prizes!”

Twinwood Festival 2018 is bigger and better than ever and arguably the biggest conglomeration of retro fans and festivities in the UK and Europe. “If a retro festival near London is what you're after, be sure to come join us for a day or better still, the whole weekend. Book early and you won't be disappointed,” Wooding concludes.

Twinwood Festival is held at the former RAF Twinwood Farm Airfield in Clapham, Bedfordshire, England. Its roots go back to 27 August 1944 when Glenn Miller and his AAF band performed an outdoor concert at RAF Twinwood for RAF personnel. The Twinwood Festival has four stages and thirteen venues, as well as campsites, pop up shops and plenty of food and drink on offer. Live bands perform continuously throughout the four day weekend. The event continues to grow year on year attracting tens of thousands of vintage music, style and fashion fans from all over the world. For more information, please visit: www.twinwoodevents.com.
