Twinwood Events announces tickets are on sale now for Twinwood 2019
Vintage events fans will be ecstatic to know tickets are now on sale for the biggest vintage event of 2019. Twinwood Festival 2019 promises to be everything it has become famous for plus much more: more bands, more stalls, more amenities, more fun!
The vintage festival has its roots way back in 1944 when the first ever swing festival was held at the RAF Twinwood Airfield in Clapham, Bedfordshire, England. The event saw the famed Glenn Miller Band perform to the assembled servicemen. The stage was a flatbed trailer and the seating a grassy field not far from the Twinwood Control Tower.
The Glenn Miller Band was a big deal, having garnered a significant following admiring of their unique style and sound. With a clarinet and tenor saxophone playing the melody and three other saxophones playing in harmony, they became icons of their musical era. However, three months later, Glenn Miller boarded an aircraft on the Twinwood airfield and was never seen or heard of again.
His legacy and his mystery lingers on in today’s biggest celebration of all things vintage, retro, swing and rock n roll, the Twinwood Festival. Held annually, the show attracts vintage fans from across the UK and the world, looking for an opportunity to hop, step and jive their way through the summer holiday weekend.
“The line-up is already looking formidable with bands such as Miss Kiddy and The Cads, The Wafle Machine Orchestra and the Ben Waters Band,” says Annie Wooding, Creative Director of Twinwood Events. “We have many of the old favourites plus some fantastic new acts and debuts not to be missed.”
Sixteen venues have been arranged for the festival including two new venues. The all-new family-friendly Family Adventure Marquee has been introduced for 2019. Hosted by the award-winning Captain Calamity, this is a festival-within-a-festival with a huge variety of stage shows, films, slideshows and crafts throughout the day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Bring the kids!
The second new venue, The Comedy Club is a more adult affair that will have vintage festival goers rolling in the aisles with a spectacular line-up of comedians and magicians providing adult-only entertainment well into the night.
“Of course, the focal point is the Twinwood Arena which takes vintage festival fans through a musical journey from the 1920s to the favourites of the 1940s and 1950s, ending in the early 1960s,” says Wooding. “Surrounded by woodland, the beautiful grass banked arena is the perfect place to sit back, relax, picnic if you will and take it all in.”
For vintage fans, the Colonial Club is not to be missed and still features the very best in entertainment from the 1920s through to the 1940s. “Take a seat at one of the many tables and enjoy tea, coffee, sandwiches, cake and hot food,” says Wooding. “Or even take the gap to learn some vintage moves in one of the many dance workshops hosted by The Melody Man.”
The Liberty Stage showcases the traditional 1940s Twinwood spirit featuring solo acts and much loved singing trios. “It’s a great spot to sit and relax or even get up for a little dance to your favourite tunes,” says Wooding. “A small stage en route to the Control Tower, it’s definitely worth stopping in on.”
With a super line-up of musicians and performers, as well as multiple stages and venues, the ultimate vintage festival is set to be in full swing come August 2019. “Tickets are now available online and are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.”
About us:
Twinwood Festival is held at the former RAF Twinwood Farm Airfield in Clapham, Bedfordshire, England. Its roots go back to 27 August 1944 when Glenn Miller and his AAF band performed an outdoor concert at RAF Twinwood for RAF personnel. On 15 December 1944, Glenn Miller boarded a Norseman aircraft from RAF Twinwood and he was never seen or heard of again. RAF Twinwood was decommissioned after WWII and the site lay almost untouched until 1989 when the company Twinwood Events was formed and the Twinwood Control Tower was converted into the Glenn Miller Museum. When restoration was completed in 2002, a celebration Glenn Miller concert was held. Its success led to the birth of the annual Glenn Miller Festival, held over the August bank holiday weekend. In 2007 the event was renamed The Twinwood Festival to incorporate a slightly wider genre of music. It is now one of the largest vintage music festivals in Europe. The Twinwood Festival has four stages and thirteen venues, as well as campsites, pop up shops and plenty of food and drink on offer. Live bands perform continuously throughout the four day weekend. The event continues to grow year on year attracting tens of thousands of vintage music, style and fashion fans from all over the world. For more information, please visit:
