Our hunting guides and hunters can find this game bird in weed patches, grassy meadows, at the edges of woodlands, and of course in grain fields. Westervelt Lodge manages its property to optimize the habitat for wildlife, creating the perfect setting for epic pheasant hunting year after year. When it comes to shooting in Alabama landscapes provide seeds, berries, fruits, shoots, insects, crops, and a variety of the wild plants and cover that pheasants need to survive and thrive.”
At Westervelt Wildlife, The Continental pheasant hunts, which are seasonal, and kicks off in October are based on the European model, which includes rapid fire. The hunting group consists of 40 members, which are split up and take their places in 10 blinds which is surrounded by a hidden tower.
When 300 pheasants are released through the openings, hunters open rapid fire. The blinds work on a rotational system which changes automatically after every 15 shots taken. Well-trained Labrador Retrievers collect the culled birds on the ground.
These hunts usually take place during a morning and an afternoon session. The hunters are treated with top class refreshments during the hunt.
Pheasant hunting is the ideal activity for a charity fundraiser. Westervelt Wildlife has the ideal facilities to facilitate a successful corporate event with well-trained professional staff and luxurious facilities.
The Wildlife conservation program became high priority in the 60s and has led to a breed of hunters who harvest or hunt with a conscience, instead of injudiciously stripping the land of deer and birds of prey. A balance is maintained with regards to the breeding pairs and the innovative management program at Westervelt Wildlife. By harvesting young deer, this pays testament to their healthy philosophy and qualify them as discerning gatekeepers of the land for generations to come.
