As 2021 speeds by at a rapid pace, we are fast approaching the upcoming 2021/22 hunting season. While there are hunters who wait for the last minute to prepare their hunting gear, there is a large group of hunting enthusiasts who are already making plans and working out their hunting schedules. It is especially the latter group who are keenly awaiting the hunting season dates for the deer hunting season in Georgia. Getting those dates are vital to ensure your hunting lease is in place. As the team at Westervelt Wildlife is taking care of the management of almost endless acres of leased hunting grounds, they are also the name many turns to for answers on when the deer hunting season is about to take place.
“We rely on the authorities to provide us with the dates that are set for the hunting season and as soon as that we get it, we pass them on to our clients to help them plan their hunting season. The Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division just released the deer hunting season dates for the state. While the proposed dates hold several changes for turkey hunters, the situation isn’t showing much change for deer hunters of the state. The biggest change deer hunters can expect is an extended hunting season for archer hunters. For them, the season for hunting all genders across the state will most likely run from September 11 to January the 9th. Hunters who rely on firearms have a slightly shorter season that kicks off only on October 16th. This gives hunters that opt for archery, a head start to the season of roughly a month,” says Matt David, the lease manager at Westervelt Wildlife.
David also expanded on several other regulations the department passed on. These include that there will be no hunting of deer with firearms in Clayton, Fulton, Cobb, and DeKalb and even a portion of Glynn County will only allow archers. Then he also highlights that there is a portion of Forsyth County, mostly south of Ga Hwy where the department only permits archery hunting, the use of shotguns or muzzleloaders. They strictly prohibit the use of any other kind of firearm.
“We’ve found that there is a continuous increase in the interest in hunting leases as hunters are keen to have more control over their hunting experience. For those to whom this remains a too expensive venture, we still offer access to hunting clubs, making your hunting experience in Georgia more affordable,” David further states.
