Wildcat Discovery Technologies has placed itself in a position to pursue three innovative technologies to ensure the breakthrough of the EV SuperCell in 2022. The EV SuperCell is envisioned as a transformational future product, which combines three technologies that are currently in development. The target is to improve the energy density of the battery by ninety percent when compared to the best batteries on the market today.
The battery performance will enable EV profitability, accelerating the adoption of the EV throughout the world. The company is combining innovative technologies to achieve energy density gravimetric of more than 500Wh/kg, increase energy density to more up to 1200Wh/l and achieve this at a lower cost, saving up to ten percent. The EV SuperCell will be cobalt and nickel free and have along life of up to one thousand cycles to eighty percent.
The company is also focusing on the safety of the EV SuperCell using solid state electrolyte, which has shown promising results in DSC testing with a dendrite barrier without any harmful solvents. Wildcat Discovery Technologies envisioned an end-product that used proprietary cathode, SSE technologies and lithium metal anodes, that are all currently in development.
The Wildcat Discovery Technologies cathode are more energetic than the nickel NMCs that are used on the market today. They are also safer, eliminating the need to use nickel and cobalt. The EV SuperCell being developed with be an all solid battery using high energetic materials, providing the best in safety and removing any flammable liquids. The lithium metal anode will ensue superior energy performance.
Jim Voeffray, the Senior Vice President Business Development at Wildcat Discovery Technologies, said during a recent interview at their San Diego based facility, “Our cathode material is low cost and high energy. Our ceramic-polymer composite electrolyte will achieve high Li-ion conductivity and mechanical integrity and our lithium metal anode will be specially treated to enhance safety, ensuring safe operation with a solid or liquid electrolyte.”
Wildcat Discovery Technologies was founded in 2006 and has build and improved their facility over the past ten years. The company has built a state of the art laboratory in San Diego, which is around forty five thousand square feet of research and development space, making them one of the largest and most sought after battery R&D companies.
