The need arose when universities were receiving more applications from students that were challenged either physically or with a learning disability like dyslexia or dyspraxia. When arriving at the assessment centre the assessor will ask a series of questions that will help them assess the DSA needs of the student. The questions will be how the student manages around the university daily. Following this interview, it will be easier to evaluate and provide the support needed.

The assessor will meet and chat in a relaxed environment, the assessment does take about 2 hours to complete because it is a quality service that Access for Students offer so they are very through. 

After the assessment is complete the assessor will write up a report with their recommendations and this will be sent to the funding body directly from the assessment centre. 

When this is received and the DSA application is approved the allowance will be released and the funding body will send a letter of confirmation. Should the student need assistance with their allowance for equipment Access for Students is available at the assessment centre to offer help.
