Post Frame Structural Engineering has been used for centuries and is a popular building style that provides an efficient way to construct strong, long-lasting structures.

For Barn Pros' engineered kits, this entails using concrete-encased pressure-treated posts to provide structural support. The flexibility of design and function provided by post-frame construction allows for a single building to serve multiple purposes.

Post-frame buildings are built on top of a skeleton of solid wooden posts that are lodged in the ground or into ground foundations. This setup differs from traditional methodology, which employs highly engineered wooden beams and/or steel frameworks held together with carefully fitted joints and wooden pegs.

Post-frame buildings were developed as a farm and barn construction method when the rise of corporate agriculture necessitated the construction of large, inexpensive agricultural structures quickly. One application was to house tractors and other pieces of industrial equipment in structures that were quick to build but still protected them from the elements.

Post Frame Engineer offered by the CEED CIVIL Engineering is simpler than the laborious joint-and-wall-peg setups required for timber framing due to its streamlined process. As the practice of post-framing became more popular, specific tools and nails were developed to suit it, which only increased the practice's popularity.

Post-frame buildings are made up of vertical wooden poles up to a foot in diameter that is spaced six to ten feet apart and overlaid with horizontal lengths of wood. These horizontal beams support the roof.

These structures are made up of a few large, heavy pieces. Because of the materials used and the lack of the need for meticulous joint crafting, they can be built much more cheaply and quickly than traditional structures. In a pinch, a single person could even build the entire structure without any outside assistance. Because the large, dense beams required to support the frame do not burn as easily as other types of wood, they are more fire-resistant than other wooden constructions.
