Experts at hide.me, work day and night to make sure that our users can have a worry free browsing and streaming experience from all sort of internet dangers including snooping, IP leaks, surveillance, data breaches, and identity theft. To make sure it happens, we keep advancing the technology with more security features. And, it is time to introduce to the world a new feature integrated into our windows app called 'Firewall.'
So, without wasting more time, let's have a look at 'what is this Firewall feature' and 'how it works' in the Windows VPN app.
What is the Firewall Feature and How it Works?
To make the connectivity more robust and safe, Firewall feature is introduced by our experts which ensures that once you enable it, you will never have to fear about leaking your IP.
The feature works in this way:
- First, go to settings by clicking on the 'Cogwheel' icon on the top
- On the right-hand side menu, click on 'Firewall'
- The first option to enable is 'Limit all Connections to VPN.'
Once you enable this setting, all connections are blocked and only hide.me VPN servers are accessible while you are disconnected from the VPN. To access the internet, you will need to connect to hide.me VPN.
- The second option is 'Limit Apps to VPN.'
If you go with this setting, you will need to define the apps which you would like to limit to VPN. If VPN is not connected the defined apps will not work. Apps only work if VPN is connected. For example, limit uTorrent or Vuze to VPN to download torrent safely without leaking your IP. Apart from defined apps, rest of the apps will work normally if hide.me VPN is not running.
Once enabled, our Firewall feature will always be active even when hide.me VPN app is not running. All apps or the selected ones will block in and outgoing connections if any of the options is activated. The App Icon in the 'Menu Bar Tray' will indicate if the Firewall is active and VPN is disconnected.
