University of Sharjah nursing achieves the highest performance indicators with international quality standards

University Hospital Sharjah, December 2022:

The University Hospital Sharjah announced that it had organized a workshop with the Sharjah Education Council, which included a three-day professional training on assessing child development, managing chronic diseases in children and evaluating visual acuity in schoolchildren.

The workshop was run by the Nursing Department, which trained more than 100 nursing staff in schools in Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. The workshop included extensive theoretical and practical training.

Abdul Rahman Al-Tamimi, Director of the Nursing Department at the University Hospital in Sharjah, said: We are working to achieve the hospital’s strategy towards its social responsibility by actively participating in community support and participating in workshops and events that exceed 15 activities annually, and as a partner in the development committees of the UAE Ministry of Health , We are working To achieve the country and Emarah strategy to support the localization of the nursing profession, with the participation of the people of the country.

The Nursing Department at the University Hospital in Sharjah consists of a team of more than six hundred employees with a professional organizational structure consisting of Director, unit managers, department supervisors, alternates and administrators 24/7 around the clock, nurses and a sterilization team, in addition to a specialized team for continuous education and development.

The nursing team represents more than half of the hospital's manpower capacity, as they serve more than 1,500 patients daily in emergency departments and outpatient clinics, and currently our average occupancy rates in inpatient departments exceed 85%.The nursing team is distributed according to the classification of patients and according to international standards. The nurse serves about 30 patients daily in outpatient and emergency clinics, while the nurse serves 4 to 5 patients in the inpatient departments and 1 to 2 patients in the intensive care, neonatology and childbirth departments, as well as three of nursing for each patient in operating rooms.

He added: “The hospital obtained accreditation from the American Joint Commission on Health Care Quality, as the evaluation is represented in more than 1200 points measuring 75% of which are directly related to the hospital’s nursing services. The hospital also obtained international accreditation as a child-friendly hospital for the quality of services and interest in educating mothers , promoting breastfeeding.” and premature care,
We also have achieved standard performance indicators that exceed international rates in the safety and health of patients, for example in indicators of bed ulcers, so we achieve lower rates of incidence and higher rates of recovery, as well as we have the lowest incidence rates of patient falling to one per 5000 patients.

The hospital has also obtained the Ministry of Health's accreditation as a hospital qualified to train doctors, nurses and other medical specialties for the period of internship.

"Al-Tamimi" explained that: "The university hospital has a training curriculums and continuing medical education center for the nursing profession that grants accredited hours of weekly on-site sessionseducation and practical training in a series of workshops exceeding fifteen workshops annually implemented by 3 accredited trainers.

He went on to say, "Therefore, we have continuous cooperation to train more than 300 male and female students from the College of Nursing at the University of Sharjah annually, as well as postgraduate students, We have also a training memorandum of understanding with the Higher Colleges of Technology to train paramedics."

He continued: "We are part of the Emirate of Sharjah, which is open to the world, so we took into account the diversity in terms of culture and language in forming the nursing team, as the team consists of 26 nationalities, including Arab nationalities as a basic denominator to facilitate communication with patients whatever their nationalities."
