After the news broke out on Thursday that the US technology giant Apple has acquired a Hyderabad-based start-up Tuplejump, the deep technology companies in the city are excited as the technological innovations are being recognised all over the world at a good pace.

Though the acquisition details are not revealed, the two founders Rohit Rai and Satyaprakash Buddhavarapu are now working with Apple as a software engineer and engineering manager respectively after this development according to their LinkedIn profiles.

"The acquisition of Tuplejump clearly shows how international firms are opening the doors to small start-ups. There are more significant opportunities in this deep technology space and the start-ups from Hyderabad are excelling in this area," said Ramesh Loganathan, center head of Progress Software and former president of Hyderabad Software Enterprises' Association (Hysea).

He has earlier worked with Rohit and Satyaprakash at Pramati Technologies in Hyderabad. Machine learning can solve many problems of the companies by increasing their effectiveness. International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)-Hyderabad's accelerator program has around five start-ups focusing on artificial intelligence and machine learning, Loganathan informed.

Rohit and Satyaprakash had quit Pramati and start Tuplejump with a team of few professionals.Within 3 years their work has caught the attention of the global tech giant.

Techcrunch, which has first reported this acquisition a couple of days ago, quoted what the Tuplejump promoters stated on the start-up's web page before the website was taken down:

"A few years ago people realised that the volume of data that businesses generate was becoming unwieldy. A new set of technologies to handle this huge amounts of data cropped up. We were one of the early adopters of these 'big data' technologies. Having helped Fortune 500 companies adopt these technologies we quickly realised how complicated they were and how much simpler they could get. Thus started our quest to simplify data management technologies and make them extremely simple to use. We are building technology that is simple to use, scalable and will allow people to ask difficult questions on huge data sets."

According to Aarti Joshi, co-founder and executive vice president of city-based big data start-up Modak Analytics, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence are creating new opportunities across the globe. "This is a niche area where multinational companies need innovative solutions and good talent."

Previously, Apple has acquired two machine learning companies - Perceptio and Turi. Tuplejump is the third such start-up acquisition by the firm. With this development, many techies in the city are hopeful of working on machine learning concepts and big data analytics.

Apple's acquisition of Tuplejump also indicates the growing capabilities of city-based start-ups in big data and machine learning space. Apple is not alone in this quest. Google is spending huge funds to engage in the race of new technologies. Twitter has acquired ZipDial last year, while Facebook has bought Little Eye Labs in 2014.

According to a report, Tuplejump had used machine learning concepts and big data tools like Apache Spark processing engine, Apache Cassandra NoSQL database, and Apache Kafka distributed high-throughput publish-subscribe messaging system. It works with Cassandra data and Apache Lucene full-text search software.

On May 23 Apple Chief executive Tim Cook had visited Hyderabad to launch his company's first Maps Development Centre in India, few days after the Apple acquired Tuplejump.
