Chef Murph gets to meet Mr. Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees

It was an honor to meet and hang with Mr. Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees. It was a man that I grew up watching on the Monkees TV series, yes during the 60’s, but even today my children watch the programs on DVD. Now, I had my chance to see the man I watched on TV, Had a chance to see him on stage at Harrah’s Casino Atlantic City, NJ for the Monkees 50 Anniversary Tour. Their new album “Good Times” one of the songs “She Makes Me Laugh” is written by Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, and is the first single. Did you know the Monkees out sold the Beatles and Rolling Stones combined in 1967? Now, I had the actual opportunity to meet Mr. Dolenz “Mickey” in an after concert party. Can you say Awesomely, Wicked!

Everyone crowded his luxury suite, I stood outside like that of scared 5 year old meeting the President, but it was Mickey of the Monkees. I got disciplined thinking I could fly off the couch watching their programs. Here he comes; what was I going to ask him? Would I sound Corny? He just performed 2+ hours straight and did an extra set. He played guitar and drums moving across a stage, singing, hit those notes, like a young man in his twenties with Peter Tork. “Stand in the Door”, I’m up, but Mickey hammers me with questions about cuisine/cooking and my thanks me for my veteran status, then says lets grab a bite, not going to say no… He was one of my first 10 followers of Chef Murph KT on Twitter including my family. It’s Mickey, Hello!!
We move to a Mexican Cantina on an upper floor of the Harrah’s Casino about 8 people mostly his family and his lovely wife Mrs. Donna Dolenz who was a fantastic host. I had the opportunity to hear him talk to a young man about 15. Mickey, Mr. Dolenz talked to this young man about the science and mathematics of music. What was really cool he asked him question like a father to a son. Trying to get the young man to explain his passion for music, allowing him to explain the fire in his gut and what made him passionate. Then Mr. Dolenz explained what made him still passionate at 70+. The Music of Rock n Roll explaining beats per minute moving to Techno, explaining jazz, funk and back to Rock n Roll linking it to that of a simple yet complex heart beat. The passion, singing this went into the early morning.
Priceless
