Mahi Muqit has proven results for macular hole surgery UK 2021.

Macular holes are more common than you think, occurring when a small gap opens in the centre of the retina, causing blurred vision, distorted vision with straight lines or letters. Often there is missing vision in a persons central vision.

Ray Man, the PA for Mahi Muqit in London, said “We don't know why a macular hole develops. It usually happens to those between the ages of sixty and eighty and is more common in women than in men. In addition to this, mostly those with long sightedness are effected. Other causes of a macular hole can be severe eye trauma, being very myopic (short sighted) or having a retinal detachment due to swelling of the central retina.”

Macular holes should not be left untreated, even though there is a very small chance of some macular holes being able to close on their own, improving vision. Most patients will find that with a macular hole their central vision will get worse, where they are unable to read. Patients do not go completely blind with untreated macular holes, as they will still have their peripheral vision.

There is a one in ten chance of developing a macular hole in the other eye, though it is important to monitor for chances in vision of the other eye, reporting them to Mahi Muqit, a leading consultant ophthalmologist in London. Mr Muqit has expertise in vitrectomy surgeries, which is how the macular hole is repaired. Mr Muqit has a ninety percent success rate in closing macular holes that have been present for less than one year. These patients will also experience an improvement in vision with seventy percent of patients being able to see up to three lines below their standard vision chart count. Once the hole is repaired, most patients find their vision less distorted, even if there is no improvement in vision chart counts.

Ray Man, also said “Evidence has shown that the earlier a patient receives treatment the better the outcome will be in improving the vision. We are talking months, not years. It is a keyhole surgery, enabling patients to recover in the comfort of their own homes.”
