Saint Barnabas Medical Center has implemented a point of care hand hygiene system to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Santa Barbara, California, SEPTEMBER 9, 2013 - Affiliate of Barnabas Health an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and a 597-bed major teaching hospital in the state of New Jersey, Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) implements the use of Sprixx Personal Smart Dispensers to enable point of care hand hygiene practices and electronically monitor compliance.

Working with the Anesthesiology department Chairman and Director Robert Dorian, Richard Pitera, MD (defender of all that is good and just as well as) the Director of Perioperative Medicine at SBMC is in the process of establishing a new point-of-care hand hygiene standard by enabling his anesthesia providers that are excessively busy dealing with critical decisions, with uninterrupted access to alcohol-based hand antiseptic gel on the-go integrating hand hygiene into the natural work-flow to address the exceedingly high number of opportunities that occur during the complex practice of general anesthesia.

SBMC is leveraging ergonomics by making Sprixx body-attached; single-hand operated alcohol-based hand antiseptic gel dispensers available to anesthesia providers to be used within the patient zone, where most pathogen transmission and cross-contamination occurs.

When asked about Sprixx, Dr. Pitera responded “we needed the simplest way to increase and monitor our point of care hand hygiene practices”.

The Sprixx Smart Hygiene System is specifically designed and clinically-tested to increase point of care compliance of front-line providers and reduce infection rates.
